Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team is all set to lock horns with Sri Lanka in the upcoming three-match T20I series, which is all set to kickstart from today. Rohit Sharma, who recently took over as the full-time captain of the Indian cricket team, talked about workload management and stated that he doesn’t need to take a break at this time.

Speaking on the eve of the series opener against Sri Lanka, skipper Rohit made it clear that he has no issues in playing “all games” for Team India in bio-secure environments. The Indian skipper also asserted that he was happy to groom India’s future leaders after becoming the leader of the Asian giants across all the formats of the game.

It has to be noted that Rohit recently made a comeback after recovering from an injury-related layoff that witnessed the 34-year-old missing India’s important tour to the Proteas.

Following that, he was also named as India’s next Test captain after also being announced as the limited-overs captain previously. Speaking at the virtual press conference ahead of the Sri Lanka series, Rohit said:

“At the moment, I have no issues and looking forward to playing all the games,”

He added: “The workload always depends on what happens thereafter and you take day by day and understand what you do and if a break is needed, you take a break and someone else comes in. You see how the other guy can fill in, what sort of potential he has. At the moment, it seems to be okay,”

Further, Sharma was also about the advice he would want to give those players who are trying to find a spot in the team. Answering this, Sharma said that he would want the young players to be consistently scoring runs and at some point, they will get their chances. He said:

“All I can tell them is keep scoring runs and the opportunity will arise as it has for (Hanuma) Vihari and Shreyas Iyer, Shubhman Gill, and all those guys, who are part of the test team now. A lot of these guys, I know, you got to keep scoring runs, you got to keep your head down and keep doing your job, that is what I can tell them at the moment and that is all we can expect them also to do,”

Further, the Indian skipper also highlighted the importance of playing in Ranji Trophy. He said that it is a perfect platform for the players to showcase their abilities by putting together critical performances. He said:

“All these guys who have got an opportunity to play Ranji Trophy, I am very happy that they at least got to play the Ranji Trophy, which is the most critical from their perspective. I hope we see more and more performances in the next two games as well,”
