Rohit Sharma Made A Big Statement After Mumbai Indians Exit IPL 2021

Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in their final match of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League after giving a solid performance in all the departments of the game. However, skipper Rohit Sharma was disappointed with the fact that the team didn’t qualify for the playoffs.

Mumbai Indians, which is the most successful team in the IPL history, having won the trophy five times, ended up on the 5th spot in IPL 2021 points table eventually with 14 points. The Rohit-led side lost out of the race for playoffs to KKR over a lower net run rate. They had the difficult task of posting a massive total on the board and defeat SunRisers Hyderabad by a margin of 171 runs or more to stand a chance to make it to the playoffs.

Though Mumbai Indians failed to qualify for the playoffs 2021, but they ended their IPL 2021 journey on a high note. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav made stunning returns to their form and scored 84(32) and 82(40) runs respectively.

Later during the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma expressed that he was very happy to win the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he also expressed his disappointment as the franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Rohit feels that it was a collective failure of the group to lose out on playoffs. He said:

It was wonderful to be part of this set-up, we can be very proud of that. We were getting momentum in Delhi and there was a break, that didn’t help the team. It was a collective failure of group. Very happy with win today, we gave everything, I am sure it was entertaining for the fans as well. They have always been supportive, they have always stood by us. Little disappointed we didn’t go through”

Further, talking about the pressure of playing for the 5-time champions Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma said that people always expect players to go out and perform. He said:

“When you play for a franchise like Mumbai, you are always expected to go out and perform. I wouldn’t call that as pressure. More than anything, it’s expectations. It was very tough (to drop big players), I want to back the players and keep the same squad going. We have had on and off season this time around. We have had a fabulous run as a franchise”,
