Indian captain Rohit Sharma heaped praises on young player Ishan Kishan after he starred in India’s stunning 62-run win against Sri Lanka in the first T20I match on Thursday. Kishan, who had a forgettable series against West Indies, roared back into the form as he played a wonderful knock of 89-runs.
Sharma was a happy man from the other end as his opening partner smashed the Sri Lankan cricketers all around the ground. The duo stitched a 111-run partnership as they gave India a powerful start to the game.
Ishan Kishan won the Player of the Match award for his blockbuster knock of 89 runs off 56 balls, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes. He was well supported by the skipper Rohit Sharma, who also played a gritty knock of 44 off 32 balls.
Later, after the match, during the post-match press conference, Rohit Sharma heaped praises on Kishan after his blazing knock. Speaking about Kishan’s performance, the Indian skipper said:
“When you play a kind of support that we play, these things [dips in form] are bound to happen. I know the ability Ishan has and it was very very pleasing to watch him bat today.”
“He constructed the innings after six overs, that was more pleasing. It was not about coming and hitting the ball, it was also about finding the gaps. I love playing in big grounds because that’s where you are tested as a batter. In Kolkata you can just time the ball for a six,”
Meanwhile, the Indian side has now taken a lead of 1-0 in the ongoing 3-match T20I series. The second T20I game will take place in Dharamshala.
