Dinesh Karthik is fondly remembered for his heroics in the Nidahas Trophy that took place earlier this year. He impressed one and all with his thrilling performance.

It was Dinesh Karthik’s thrilling batting performance which made our Indian cricket team lift the Nidahas Trophy. He scored a quickfire 29* off only 8 balls he played. However, there is a very interesting story that revolves around Dinesh Karthik’s destructive performance in that match.

Recently, Rohit Sharma was a guest on What the Duck, where he revealed that interesting story. Dinesh Karthik wasn’t happy with Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in that match as he pushed him down the batting order.

Talking about the incident, Rohit Sharma said:

“Dinesh wasn’t happy with his batting position in the final match. Considering his previous performances on that tour and even before that on the South African tour, his form was good. He had played a couple of cameos which were crucial for us. Thus, he was expecting to bat at the higher batting position but he wasn’t getting his opportunities”.

While talking to the host of the show, Vikram Sathaye, Rohit Sharma revealed how the match was going out of their hands when Vijay Shankar failed to find his timings. He further explained the reason why he pushed Dinesh Karthik down his batting position. He said:

“I sent Vijay Shankar to bat at number five position as I wanted an experienced player to bat down the order. Bangladesh had two experienced bowlers in Rubel Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman. Thus, I wanted Dinesh to take them on in the final overs. When I got out and I came into the dressing, Dinesh was staring at me angrily”.

He added:

“I asked Dinesh that it is okay, it would be better that you go in the end and finish the game off. Still, he was very angry at me. So I thought that I should leave the dressing room so that it doesn’t impact his mood”.

But thankfully, Rohit Sharma’s move turned out to be successful for the Indian team as they won the prestigious Nidahas trophy. Dinesh Karthik then played a brilliant cameo and took the match away by storm. He finished off the game in the most classiest way by hitting a monster six.
