The franchise consisted of a number of match-winners in the team and was hailed as one of the strongest teams of IPL. However, with a heavy heart, the franchise had to release the players they didn’t decide to retain ahead of the IPL 2022 auctions.

On Tuesday, Mumbai Indians finally announced the names of the retained players ahead of the upcoming IPL 2022 mega-auctions. Mumbai Indians also retained their main all-rounder Kieron Pollard (6 crores), ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah(12 crores), and talented middle-order batsman, Suryakumar Yadav(8 crores).

However, the team had to release the rest of the players for the upcoming IPL 2022 mega-auctions that included the likes of Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Quinton de Kock, among others.

After the announcement of the retained players, the skipper Rohit Sharma was an emotional man. He expressed his feelings upon losing some of his ‘gun players’ from the squad due to the restrictions in the number of players allowed to be retained.

Rohit Sharma termed retention as the toughest decision the franchise had to take. He said:

“It was going to be the toughest retention for Mumbai this year. We’ve had absolutely gun players and to release them is heartbreaking. They’ve done some amazing work and created memories for this franchise. But, we’ve got four players including myself who can hopefully form a good core”.
