Led by Rohit Sharma, Team India recorded a comfortable win over the West Indies in the first Test, in Dominica, by a massive margin of an innings and 141 runs, sealing the game on Day 3 itself.

West Indies had batted first after winning the toss, but only the toss went their way, otherwise, the hosts ran the show on all three days. India bowled out West Indies for 150 on Day 1 courtesy of a five-wicket haul from R Ashwin.

In India’s first and only innings in the game, openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed their respective centuries with Jaiswal becoming the 17th Indian batsman and only 3rd Indian opener to hit a century on his Test debut while this was Rohit Sharma’s second century outside Asia. Virat Kohli scored 76 runs and India declared at the start of the second session on Day 3 at 421/5.

It took only 50.3 overs for India to bowl West Indies out again, once again R Ashwin wreaking havoc with a 7-wicket haul, and the hosts were dismissed for only 130.

Rohit Sharma didn’t post a picture of himself after the win

India captain Rohit Sharma took to social media to post a couple of pictures following India’s win in Dominica. Despite being one of the heroes of the match, and notching up his second Test ton outside Asia, Rohit Sharma gave the limelight in his post to the two other bigger heroes of Team India in this match – Jaiswal and Ashwin.

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Rohit said this about debutant Jaiswal: “He has the talent, he has shown us in the past that he is ready. Came and batted sensibly. The temperament was also tested, at no stage he was panicking. The chats we had were to remind him that ‘you belong here. You have done the hard yards, enjoy your time here’.”

The second Test match will start on July 20 in Trinidad.
