Indian captain Rohit Sharma etched his name in the history books on Saturday during the ongoing fourth Test between India and Australia as he became the sixth Indian batter in history to complete 17,000 runs in international cricket.

Rohit Sharma Created A Big Record

The star Indian batter, who is playing his 438th international match, needed only 21 runs before the start of the final Test match against the World’s no.1 Test team. He was unbeaten on 17 runs at the end of the second day’s play at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. And as he scored four more runs in the first session of Day 3, Rohit joined the elite club.

Before Rohit, the iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar, the previous captain Virat Kohli, the current head coach Rahul Dravid, the former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, and the former wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni all amassed 17000 runs or more in international cricket for India.

List of players with the most runs for India in international cricket:

5.MS Dhoni5351709244.74224
6.Rohit Sharma438*17003*42.91264

Rohit became the sixth Indian batter to join the 17,000-plus run club. Interestingly, if he is able to add 114 runs in the ongoing game, he will become the fifth-leading run-getter, surpassing the legend MS Dhoni in the list.

Meanwhile, Rohit was dismissed after scoring 35 runs off 58 balls in the first innings of the game. His short knock was laced with 3 fours and a stunning six.

Rohit is just 92 runs short of MS Dhoni’s record but if he is able to score the required runs in the ongoing 4th Test match, then he will go past Dhoni’s tally. Even if Rohit fails to score these runs in the ongoing match, he will get the chance to do so in the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Australia
