On Friday evening, Lasith Malinga brought an end to his illustrious ODI career in Colombo in front of his home fans with a wicket off the last ball he bowled. Malinga finished his illustrious career as the 9th highest wicket-taker as he took 338 wickets, moving past Anil Kumble’s tally of wickets in the 50-over format.

Apart from hi illustrious career for the country, Malinga has contributed alot with his stints for Mumbai Indians. In the recently concluded season of Indian Premier League, Malinga had defended eight runs in the last over to help Mumbai Indians win their 4th IPL trophy beating Chennai Super Kings.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indians took to his twitter and wrote a very heartfelt message for his teammate. He wrote:

“If I had to pick one match winner among many others for @mipaltan in the last decade, this man will be on the top for sure. As a captain he give me breather during tense situation and he never failed to deliver, such was his presence within the team. Best wishes LM for the future”
