Karthik’s last appearance for India was during the 2022 T20 World Cup. Although he played well in the first four matches, he was benched for the final league stage match and the crucial semi-final against England. His impressive performance in the 2022 IPL for RCB led to his return to the Indian team after being out of the squad for three years.

Despite being replaced by Hardik Pandya as the captain of the franchise for the 2024 season, Rohit Sharma will lead India in the upcoming mega event. Rohit and Karthik have a well-known close relationship.

There’s speculation that the 2024 IPL might be the end of the road for the 38-year-old’s international career. During a recent podcast with Nasser Hussain and Michael Atheron, Karthik hinted strongly that he’s ready to retire from the sport.
