RP Singh Tweeted Why Nathan Lyon Is A Great Spinner

Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon claimed his 400th Test wicket on Saturday, ending his long wait of almost a year He became the 17th player to achieve this milestone in men’s cricket and only the third Australian bowler, after Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath to reach this milestone.

Nathan Lyon got his name etched in the record books of cricket as he achieved the feat on the fourth day of the ongoing first Ashes Test in Gabba when he dismissed Dawid Malan for 82 and ended the long wait for his 400th Test wicket.

The record-making moment took place on the e 73rd over of the England innings in the just-concluded Gabba test. Dawid Malan had stepped out and looked to defend the delivery but was beaten by the turn. The ball took a thick inside edge onto the pad and popped straight towards Marnus Labuschagne at the silly mid-off. Labuschagne took an easy catch, leading to a jubilant celebration for Nathan Lyon.

The off-spinner managed to give a much-needed breakthrough to his side as he broke the rock-solid partnership of 162 runs between Malan and Root.

With this feat, Lyon has joined an elite list of spinners to reach 400 Test wickets. The list includes some of the legendary names like Muralitharan, Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, Rangana Herath, R Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh in the panel.

He is also the third-highest wicket-taker in the Australian cricket team. Spin legend Shane Warne is the highest wicket-taker with 708 wickets, while former bowling great McGrath is second with 563 scalps.

Meanwhile, Lyon has been receiving praises and congratulatory messages from all corners. From cricketers, experts to fans, everyone is lauding the achievement of Lyon in the longest format of the game.

Among many, former Indian cricketer RP Singh also took to his Twitter and shared a special message for Lyon. In his Tweet, RP Singh explained what makes Lyon an outstanding spinner. He wrote:

“Adelaide 2014, Bangalore 2017, Perth 2018 and many more outstanding spells against India makes #Lyon an outstanding spinner. Never easy to be best against the best batters of spin. Great achievement for him to reach 400 Test wicket. Congratulations”
