In typical MS Dhoni fashion, his decision to step down as CSK captain before the IPL 2024 season caught everyone by surprise. When Ruturaj Gaikwad was spotted in the captain’s photoshoot, many wondered if he could handle the pressure. However, Ruturaj himself admitted that he shares many traits with MS Dhoni.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Revealed Similar Traits He Shares With MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings have had an impressive beginning to IPL 2024. Under their new captain, they have secured victories in their first two matches of the season. Alongside two other teams, CSK is among the few with a flawless win record. Gaikwad’s leadership has been commendable, with MS Dhoni providing valuable support.

“When I watched him closely for one year, when I wasn’t playing regularly in 2019, I realised I have some traits which Mahi has as well. I also realised that we as persons are of similar nature. We both try to be as mature as possible in the field, and try to be as calm, composed, fun and relaxing off the field,” Ruturaj said.

“I am really grateful that he is always there for me whenever I need him,” he added.

Dhoni Praised Gaikwad At An Event

Meanwhile, at a recent promotional event for CSK, former captain Dhoni praised Ruturaj. During the event, the anchor asked Rachin Ravindra, who was playing his first IPL season, about a dropped catch against Gujarat Titans and if he glanced at Dhoni afterward. But before the Kiwi opener could respond, Dhoni jokingly interjected, saying, “There’s a new captain now (laughs).”

“It’s there but I’m not somebody who reacts a lot, especially at somebody who is playing their first or second game. And I think Rutu (Ruturaj Gaikwad) is quite the same. But it was fun to watch him (Rachin) move all around like 360 (degrees) he was everywhere, felt like he was dancing,” added Dhoni sitting by Ravindra’s side.
