SA vs IND: Fans Troll Rohit Sharma For His Captaincy

South Africa orchestrated a remarkable victory against India in the first test at Centurion. The clash, which witnessed South Africa scoring a formidable 408 runs in the first innings, was a testament to the brilliance of Dean Elgar, whose marathon innings of 185 runs off 287 balls dominated the game. This victory not only showcased Elgar’s exceptional skills but also underscored the prowess of the entire South African squad.

Played on a challenging pitch with significant assistance for the seamers, Elgar’s innings stood out as a masterpiece. The seasoned batsman’s 28 boundaries painted a vivid picture of resilience and determination, putting South Africa in the driver’s seat from the very start. This monumental performance marked Elgar’s final game on his home ground in Centurion.

India, facing a daunting task in the second innings, managed to score 131 runs, courtesy of Virat Kohli’s valiant 76 runs. However, it proved insufficient as South Africa secured a comprehensive victory by an innings and 32 runs. The reality, however, saw a more prepared South African squad dominating across the board.

Despite being labelled as underdogs, South Africa’s rookies displayed remarkable maturity and discipline, outperforming and battering the world’s best Test squad. The convincing victory not only established South Africa’s dominance but also fueled hopes for India’s redemption in future clashes. The first session of the Test witnessed India grappling with a heavy loss of wickets, primarily due to the seam movement orchestrated by Rabada and debutant Nandre Burger. Their impressive performance set the tone for South Africa’s dominance in the match.

KL Rahul’s brilliant century played a crucial role in India reaching 245 in their first innings, providing a counter to South Africa’s early onslaught. However, South Africa responded tactfully, with de Zorzi and Elgar blunting the new ball and setting the stage for a formidable lead. Elgar’s maiden hundred at Centurion and subsequent daddy hundred solidified South Africa’s position. Supported by Jansen and Bedingham, the hosts amassed a significant lead, leaving India with a daunting task in the second innings.

Nandre Burger’s exceptional second-inning performance, dismissing key Indian batsmen, ensured that South Africa maintained control. His contributions, coupled with Rabada’s relentless bowling, sealed India’s fate in a mere 35 overs. India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, faced a challenging outing, scoring 5 in the first inning and a duck in the second. As a Test captain, Rohit has been under scrutiny, stepping into the shoes of India’s greatest Test captain, Virat Kohli. The overseas challenges have highlighted Rohit’s apparent struggle in the captain’s role, drawing criticism on social media.
