Sachin Tendulkar will go down as one of the greatest batsmen to have ever played cricket. Nicknamed as The God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar created a lot of records during his active time as a cricketer. He holds the record for the most runs scored by a batsman in international cricket. Also, Tendulkar is the only batsman with 100 international centuries to his name.
There were numerous occasions where the opposition bowlers tried to pull Sachin Tendulkar’s leg by sledging him, but on the following occasions, Tendulkar preferred to give it back to his opponents.
Henry Olonga
Zimbabwe was emerging as a strong cricket playing nation in the 90s. Henry Olonga was one of their best talents. Olonga dismissed him in a tri-series match, but in the very next game, Tendulkar gave him an epic reply by hitting a 92-ball 124, scoring a majority of the runs off his bowling.
Brad Hogg
After Brad Hogg dismissed Sachin Tendulkar in an ODI match, he went to get an autograph from The God. Tendulkar signed the photo where he had been dismissed by Hogg and surprisingly wrote ‘This will never happen again, Hoggy.’ and Tendulkar ensured that he always played aggressively against the Aussie.
Craig McDermott
Craig McDermott had abused an 18-year-old Sachin Tendulkar when he was touring Australia. The fast bowler told him “Ba#&*^%#d..come to Perth,I will see you there.” When the two met in Perth, Tendulkar scored a brilliant century, aggregating 114 runs for Team India and silenced McDermott.
Glenn McGrath
In the ICC Knockout Trophy 2000, Sachin Tendulkar destroyed Glenn McGrath and even sledged the fast bowler. McGrath was known for his brilliance with the ball and in their previous encounters, he even tried to sledge Sachin. However, in that match, Tendulkar sledged McGrath and unsettled him with his excellent batting.
“Champions Trophy 2000, I bowled a short ball to Sachin, he pulled me. Sachin just smashed me everywhere, and he was the one having a bit of a chat. He was getting stuck into me, sledging me and it was a little bit unusual. That hadn’t happened before. It was Sachin’s day, he was confident, and he was letting me know,” McGrath said.
