The year 2017 has seen the game of cricket being taken to newer levels with captains such as Smith and Kohli heralding a new era for their team in style. While India have been as dominant as ever, apart from the blip at the Champions Trophy, the other teams are still finding ways to take their top spot.

The captains of these teams play a major role in determining the success and failure of their squads and are generally paid the most. Here’s a breakdown of the fee commanded by international captains:

  • Steve Smith:

While Kohli may be the most popular cricketer in the world, Steve Smith is actually the highest earning captain in the world. The Australian captain has managed to rake in nearly 10 Crores from the Cricket Australia Board.

Smith earns 9.56 crores for being the captain of the Australian team and is a great servant of the Australian team.

  • Joe Root:

The Indian captain earns close to 6.50 crores every year though that amount is much more when you take in all his endorsements and media and business earnings. Kohli however, does not let that get to his head and has been a consistent performer.

He has taken his game to newer levels this year with some fantastic performances and despite his loss at the CT Final, he is still India’s best hope of a great leader.

  • Faf Du Plessis:
