Lankan Premier League has been making the noise for all the right reasons despite cricket zealots being skeptical about it at the start of the season. Even articles were penned about the tournament being a flop show due to unstated reasons.
However, as the fray kickstarted, things started rolling smoothly and the tournament gained a good deal of steam with every passing game.
Barring the iconic Sri Lankan cricketers in the tournament, there is a strong draft of foreigners who have enlisted themselves and are doing a decent job. Amongst the foreign cricketers, Indians have also held a strong fort and are just second in the line of bagging a handsome deal.
Names like Shahid Afridi, Dale Steyn, Mohammad Amir, Irfan Pathan, Andre Russell, and Dinesh Chandimal have been main-eventing the show. Recently Andre Russell drafted a 13-ball-50 which was the fastest in the tournament.
Shahid Afridi also hogged the limelight for losing his cool on Afghan sensation, Naveen-ul-Haq. Kusal Perera and Isuru Udana lit up the tournament with scintillating brands of cricket while Afridi travelled time to hammer a quick-fire 58.
Indian players like Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, Sudeep Tyagi, and Manpreet Gony have eventually turned up in scintillating incarnations of themselves. Recently the salary structure of the players in LPL was rolled out.
The players have been assorted into six categories going by the payment structure. Four players who have been ennobled with the top-most categories are Dasun Shanaka, Angelo Matthews, Thisara Perera, and Kusal Perera and their salary-structure is USD 60,000 (Rs 44. 32 lakhs) approximately.
Andre Russell – USD 50000, Colombo Kings
Despite failing to impress for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL for the ongoing season, Russell already hogged the limelight with a scintillating 13-ball-half-century. He smacked it all over the park and underlined the worth that he brings to the side. For Kolkata Knight riders he was earning a billing of Rs 8.5 crores which was higher than KKR’s captain while for Colombo Kings he is bagging a sum of USD 50000 which amounts to a guesstimate figure of Rs 37 lakhs.
Biggies of the fray like Shahid Afridi, Irfan Pathan, and Dale Steyn have bagged contracts of USD 50000 (Rs 36.93 lakhs) approximately.
Dale Steyn – USD 50000, Kandy Tuskers
Steyn has now been reduced to a former shadow of his scintillating self after an injury-plagued career. However, he still commands a healthy bill for whichever team that he is a part of. He mainly warmed the benches of RCB and still managed to walk away with a payroll of Rs 2 crores. However, for Kandy Tuskers, he has bagged a contract of USD 50000 which traces to a rough figure of Rs 37 lakhs.
Isuru Udana – USD 40000, Colombo Kings
Isuru Udana played a decent role in the ranks of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the recently concluded IPL. At RCB he was bagging a salary of Rs 50 lakhs. While, for Colombo Kings he has earned himself a figure of USD 40000. Munaf Patel was a late-joiner at Kandy Tuskers and his bill was oblivious to others. Sudeep Tyagi and Manpreet Gony were crammed in the same category as they have grabbed deals of USD 40000 (Rs 29.55 lakhs) approximately in Lankan Premier League.
