Sambit Bal reveals Why He Has Mixed Feelings About Dravid Becoming India’s Coach

Former Indian cricketer and batting legend Rahul Dravid has formally applied for the position of head coach of the Indian cricket team. He was being touted as the heavy favorite for the role of head coach of team India.

Apart from Rahul Dravid, former cricketers Paras Mhambrey and Ajay Ratra have applied for the positions of India’s bowling and fielding coaches respectively. On Tuesday, a senior BCCI official told PTI:

“Yes, Rahul has formally applied today as it is the last day of the deadline. His team at the NCA, bowling coach Paras (Mhambrey) and fielding coach Abhay (Sharma) have already applied. His application was just a formality,”

Rahul Dravid, who is one of the most loved and respected cricketers around the world, has been grooming the young Indian cricketers for a long time. Several young Indian cricketers included Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, and Washington Sundar have been groomed by Rahul Dravid during their India A and U19 days. He is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and if he becomes Team India’s next head coach, he will have to step down from his position.

Meanwhile, as soon as the news came out, a wave of happiness went over the fans on social media and in no time, social media was already flooded with amazing reactions from the netizens on it. Among many,  ESPN Cricinfo’s editor-in-chief Sambit Bal also joined the bandwagon and came up with a tweet on the news.

In his Tweet, he expressed how he has mixed feelings about Rahul Dravid becoming an Indian coach. He wrote:

“I have mixed feelings about Rahul Dravid becoming India coach. He will certainly be a great presence in the dressing room. But there is also the feeling that the younger players will miss him more”
