Sanju Samson is relieved to be included in India’s 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup, particularly after being overlooked in previous major tournaments. His outstanding performance as captain and batsman in the ongoing 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League earned him this opportunity.

IPL 2024 - 'I Want To Go Out There And Hit A Six On My First Ball': Sanju Samson On His Approach

Sanju Samson has faced tough competition from contenders like KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, and Jitesh Sharma. In his last T20I appearance earlier this year against Afghanistan, he was dismissed for a golden duck. However, all thanks to his brilliant and consistent performances in the IPL 2024, Samson has finally earned a call again.

The 29-year-old batter is in terrific form off-lately, having amassed 385 runs in nine innings at an impressive average of 77.00 and a remarkable strike rate of 161. Sanju has scored four half-centuries this season, with a top score of 82 not out.

Following the squad announcement, Sanju Samson shared a post on Instagram in Malayalam, saying “Viyarpu Thuniyitta Kuppayam,” which translates to “Shirt stitched of sweat and hard work.”

Sanju Samson’s father, Samson Viswanath, also expressed immense joy over his son’s selection for the T20 World Cup squad. He noted that Sanju has changed his approach, shifting from trying to hit every ball to adopting a more strategic and consistent batting style.

“Previously, he attempted to hit every ball for maximum impact… However, this season, we are witnessing a transformed Sanju. I look forward to seeing him contribute runs for the country,” his father told a news agency.
