“Sanju Samson Was Dropped As We…” : Wasim Jaffer Slammed BCCI For Mismanagement Of Players

Team India middle-order batsman Sanju Samson is struggling to get a consistent run in the team. He was once again dropped from  India’s playing XI for the ongoing ODI fixture. He was also benched for the entire T20I series, however, he got an opportunity in the 1st ODI match and he did pretty well. He registered 36 in 38 balls as India reached 306 for seven in 50 overs, setting a target of 307 in Auckland. But despite a decent performance in the series opener, Samson was again benched in the second ODI to accommodate Deepak Hooda as the sixth bowling option.

Meanwhile, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer took to his social media and shared a long note with his fans, explaining how a lack of all-rounders and part-time bowlers has seen players like Samson suffer. Notably, the Indian side lost the 1st ODI match by 7 wickets as the bowlers failed to pick up wickets. Therefore, stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan opted to add a sixth bowling option for the 2nd ODI.

As the 2nd ODI started, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl. After losing the toss, India captain Shikhar Dhawan said, “We would have bowled first as well. It has been raining a lot. We have to go with the pace of the game. In the last match, the wicket was seaming first 10-15 overs. Seems to be the case here too. Two changes, Deepak Chahar for Shardul Thakur. Deepak Hooda comes in for Samson.”

In order to maintain the balance in the side, Shikhar Dhawan decided to bench Samson and the move sparked plenty of backlash from the fans. However, Wasim Jaffer feels that the Indian side is hurting because there is a lack of all-rounders and part-time bowlers. Sharing the note, Jaffer wrote:

“Sanju was dropped despite playing well cos we don’t have enough all rounders and part time options. My two cents on why there’s a dearth of all rounders and part timers. #NZvIND #SanjuSamson,”

In the long-note that Jaffer shared, he wrote: “Lack of all-rounders: We don’t manage all-rounders well. Because there aren’t many around we’re quick to play them at the highest level, but then after few bad outings they’re out as quickly as they got in. Vijay Shankar, Venky lyer, Shivam Dube, and Krunal Pandya few examples. Need to show patience while they develop,”

He added:  “Lack of part-time bowling options: With bowling machines and throw down specialists around, batters have stopped bowling in the nets.
