'Scared Of Bouncer': Shreyas Iyer Got Trolled For Getting Out On A Short Ball In Ranji Final

Things have not been going well for Shreyas Iyer in recent times. After being dropped from the Indian Test, then excluded from the BCCI central contracts, and now the batter failed in the first innings of the Ranji Trophy 2024 final. It was not that he didn’t get a good score – only 7 runs – but that he was once again troubled and dismissed by a short delivery.

Mumbai and Vidarbha got the Ranji Trophy 2024 final underway on Sunday morning at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Vidarbha captain Akshay Wadkar won the toss and elected to bowl first and Vidarbha had Mumbai on the ropes in the first session, taking four wickets for 99 runs, the latest scalp was that of Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer managed only 7 runs in his innings of 15 balls where he hit one four but was largely cautious – too cautious – from short deliveries as he stood on the backfoot with his weight behind. Harsh Dubey, Yash Thakur, and Umesh Yadav troubled him before the senior India pacer eventually got him with a back-of-length delivery.

It was a short ball outside the off-stump that Shreyas Iyer could have easily left, but with the apprehensions of the short ball, he fended at it and gave a simple catch to Karun Nair at first slip.

Fans were left frustrated at Iyer wasting a good opportunity to show the selectors his red-ball wares after being dropped from the Test team, but he missed this big chance in the first innings of the Ranji final.

Shreyas Iyer got trolled for getting out on a short ball in Ranji final:

Mumbai got off to a decent start with an 81-run opening stand between Prithvi Shaw and Bhupen Lalwani, but the Vidarbha pacers rocked back taking four quick wickets.
