Shardul Thakur came up with a sensational batting performance on the opening day of the 4th Test match at The Oval to help team India inch towards a respectable first innings total. Shardul walked out to bat after India’s big guns had already left the party.

India was seven down for 127 runs soon after tea when Shardul walked-out with all guns blazing to save his team. He joined hands with tail-ender Umesh Yadav and together they stitched a 63-run stand in just 48 balls.

Shardul smashed the English bowlers to all the corners of the ground. With the help of some fascinating shots, Thakur raced to 31 off 21 balls only helping India cross the 150-run mark in the 58th over. Thakur then hoisted Ollie Robinson for a stunning six, which was his 3rd six, to reach his half-century in 31 balls. Thakur celebrated his half-century with a lot of swagger as he waved his bat to the dressing room.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra took to his Twitter to reveal that Shardul Thakur’s 31-ball fifty, was the fastest ever fifty in England. Yes, you read that right. Thakur broke the record of Ian Botham, who had got to the landmark in 32 balls in 1986 at the Oval. Sharing the news, Aakash Chopra wrote:

“Fastest Test fifty in England. Ever. Ever. #Lord #Shardul #EngvInd”

Alongwith this, Shardul also became Shardul’s knock was also the second-fastest fifty in a Test match. India’s legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev holds the record for the fastest fifty by an Indian batsman, for his 30-ball 50 against Pakistan in Karachi in 1982
