Sherfane Rutherford Receives The Most Unique Award In Cricket

West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford received the most unique, unusual reward for becoming the Player of the Series in the Global T20 Canada tournament: Half acre land in the USA!

Yes, the GT20 Canada tournament concluded where Sherfane Rutherford helped his side Montreal Tigers win the final against Surrey Jaguars at the TD Cricket Arena in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, and the left-hander got half-an-acre land in the USA as his reward for being the Player of the Series.

This is one of the most unexpected, weird, and unusual awards that have been given in cricket history, and there have been some really bizarre ones such as a mixer blunder, rice cooker, bat grip, shoe laces, and even a 2.5 kg fish!

Sherfane Rutherford was also the Man of the Match in the final for scoring 38* runs off 29 balls to lift Montreal Tigers chasing down the target of 131 runs in the final. He bagged the Player of the Tournament award for finishing with 220 runs in the season, finishing at the second-highest score of the tournament, at an average of 44.

In the post-match presentation ceremony, West Indies Clive Lloyd presented Sherfane Rutherford with the Player of the Tournament’s check which had written over it his reward: half-acre land in USA.

This award of half-an-acre land is really unique in cricket, or in any sport for that matter. It is, of course, quite worthy for Sherfane Rutherford considering the skyrocketing land prices in the USA.

Sherfane Rutherford must be hoping that his performances in the GT20 Canada tournament would lead him to get heftier contracts in the IPL auction and also a recall to the West Indies team.

He has been part of four different IPL franchises in his career: Delhi Capitals in 2019, Mumbai Indians in 2020, SRH in 2021, and RCB in 2022, but he didn’t get picked for IPL 2023.
