Shikhar Dhawan Made A Big Statement Ahead Of IND vs WI ODI Series: After having a successful white-ball series against England, the Indian cricket team will now lock its horns with West Indies in a three-match ODI series followed by a 5-match T20I series. With most of the key players being rested for the ODI series, most of the players will be returning for the T20I series.

Shikhar Dhawan To Lead Team India Against West Indies

While Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the Indian cricket team in the ODI series in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain KL Rahul.  The ODI series against West Indies, kickstarting Thursday in Port of Spain, Trinidad, will be Shikhar Dhawan’s second assignment as team India’s captain.

It was last year when Shikhar Dhawan had led team India to a 2-1 series win over Sri Lanka in the 50-over format.

Dhawan Made A Big Statement

Meanwhile, ahead of much-awaited India vs West Indies series, Shikhar Dhawan spoke about the challenges the team would face in the West Indies. In a video shared by the BCCI on Twitter, the opening batter said that the weather and conditions would be a bit difficult in the Caribbean, but the team is confident and well prepared to face them upfront.

“Of course, we will enjoy the tour. The weather in West Indies will be a bit challenging and difficult. But I feel the boys are well prepared. Just like how Siraj performed today, they aren’t just waiting for the opportunity but there is preparation behind it,”

Shikhar Dhawan also said that this tour will be an opportunity for youngsters to experience playing the conditions of the Caribbean. He said: “So the youngsters who will be going on the tour, they aren’t just young but they’re mature as well and they will get the exposure playing in West Indies. And they have played in the IPL as well,”

Dhawan also said that after India’s recent success against England, the West Indies tour will also bring some joy to the Indian team. He said:

“With all this experience and youthness in our ranks, I feel we will have a great series. And lots of smiles, lots of wins. Now we have won such a big series in England, but everybody couldn’t do their best. So, West Indies is a great opportunity for us to peak over there and show our talent,”

Talking about the much-awaited series, since senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah won’t feature in the ODI series, the focus will be on the youngsters especially players like Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Hooda.
