Shikhar Dhawan Expressed Disappointment In Not Finding A Place In The Asian Games Squad

Shikhar Dhawan, the flamboyant Indian opener, has etched his name in cricketing history with his stellar performances, particularly in ICC tournaments. Known for his elegant stroke play and impeccable timing, Dhawan has been a consistent force at the top of the order for the Indian cricket team. His impact in ICC tournaments has been nothing short of remarkable, making him a crucial asset in the team’s pursuit of glory.

Dhawan first announced his arrival on the international stage during the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy in England, finishing as the tournament’s highest run-scorer. His aggressive yet composed style of batting set the tone for India’s success, as he played pivotal innings in crucial matches. His ability to perform under pressure earned him the nickname “Gabbar,” a testament to his fearless approach at the crease.

His knack for rising to the occasion in high-stakes encounters and adapting to different conditions showcased his versatility as a top-order batsman. Dhawan’s proficiency in limited-overs cricket, coupled with his ability to construct innings and accelerate when needed, makes him a valuable asset in the Indian squad.

Beyond statistics, Dhawan’s infectious energy and camaraderie with teammates contribute to a positive team environment. His impact extends beyond the boundaries, influencing the team’s dynamics both on and off the field. As a seasoned campaigner in ICC tournaments, Shikhar Dhawan’s contributions have left a mark on Indian cricket, making him a celebrated figure in the nation’s cricketing folklore.

Shikhar Dhawan expressed his initial surprise and shock upon learning that his name was not included in the selection for the Asian Games. Despite this, he emphasized his acceptance of the decision, recognizing that selectors have their own thought processes and that he needed to respect their choices. Dhawan clarified that he hadn’t engaged in any discussions with selectors about his future in the context of the Asian Games exclusion.

On a more positive note, he spoke highly of his experiences at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), expressing his enjoyment of the time spent there and acknowledging the excellent facilities it provides. Dhawan credited the NCA for playing a crucial role in shaping his cricketing career and expressed gratitude for the opportunities and support he received from the institution.

Reflecting on his cricketing journey, Dhawan highlighted the moment of receiving the Arjuna Award as the pinnacle of his career. Shikhar Dhawan said: “When my name was not there (for Asian Games), I was a bit shocked. But, then, I was like they have a different thought process, you just have to accept it. “I have not spoken to any selector (about my future). I keep going to NCA. I enjoy my time there. The facilities are great. NCA has shaped my career, and I am grateful for it. “I think, when I was given the Arjuna Award, that moment is my best moment related to my cricketing career. It is a great honour for me to receive the Arjuna Award, and I still thank everyone for being with me throughout his journey, including my coaches, medical staff, support staff, the BCCI, my teammates, family and friends.”

Shikhar Dhawan said "Rohit Sharma from the other end gives that sense of comfort and assurance – we have scored over 6000 runs together. Rohit & I formed one of the most successful opening partnerships for Indian cricket". [TOI] pic.twitter.com/SFNv0kZc9N
