Shikhar Dhawan, the regular Indian opener, has offered to change his batting position for the team. The statement has come in the wake of the recent decision of the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli to drop himself down at No. 4 in order to make space for KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan both, backfired on the team.

The Australians defeated India by 10 wickets in the first of the three-match series, successfully chasing down the target of 256 runs given to them in only 38 overs.

During the match, with the Indian cricket team playing with three openers, Virat Kohli demoted himself to the number 4 position and failed miserably to score runs in the tough situation. The middle-order of the team was bundled up by the Australian bowlers in quick successions.

After the brutal defeat by the hands of the Australian cricket team, Virat Kohli is likely to return to his original ‘number 3’ position, which also means that either Shikhar Dhawan or KL Rahul will have to make a way out of the squad.

Recently, in the post-match interview, Shikhar Dhawan said that if he is asked to bat at number 3 he will do it for the country. He said:

“If they ask me to bat at No.3, of course I’ll do it. Anything for my country, for sure,”

“You have to be mentally strong, all the boys are mentally strong, that’s why they’ve been playing international cricket and it’s part of the journey, sometimes you’ve to switch numbers as well.”

He also revealed the moment that made the Indian batsmen slip down the slope. He said:

“We handled those first 10-15 overs very nicely. As I said that where we lost four wickets in a go, that is where the game changed for us, then we were behind the game and then we were trying to cover it, so that is where we went wrong,”

He was all praises for KL Rahul, who has been giving amazing performances. He said:

“KL (Rahul) got out. That time we planned to accelerate and those four wickets we lost, that’s where we lost the momentum. We were targeting 300 runs but we ended up scoring fewer runs. In bowling, we could not take early wickets. They outplayed us,”
