Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, who is hailed as one of the greatest bowlers of his time, pointed out the x-factor missing from the Indian pacers. He made an interesting observation as he compared the bowling attack of the Indian cricket team to the Pakistan cricket team.
From Imran Khan to Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis to Shoaib Akhtar, Pakistan has produced several fast bowlers, who have left the mark in the cricketing history with their bowling performances.
While Shoaib Akhtar lauded the development of the Indian seamers in the last few years, however, he feels that the energy is missing when compared to the Pakistani bowlers. Speaking on a podcast alongside Australia legend Brett Lee, Akhtar said:
“There is a difference between Pakistan and India. The Indians are producing good fast bowlers, but what they are lacking is the rare energy – that anger on your face, that attitude that I am going to just kill you,”
According to Shoaib Akhtar, the difference between Indian and Pakistani bowlers is due to the ‘environment and food’. Yes, Akhtar explained that the reason behind Pakistan’s dominance in the fast bowling department is the idols, food, and environment we pick. He said:
“The idols that we have, the food, the environment, the attitude. At the same time, you have people like me who are full of energy. It gives us pleasure to bowl quick,”
He added: “You become what you eat, right? My nation eats lots of animals and we end up being like animals. When it comes to fast bowlers, we just run in like lions,”
