India’s star batter Shreyas Iyer has impressed one and all with his recent performances and stupendous returns for the Indian cricket team both against the red and white ball. He also turned out to be one of the big winners of the major reshuffling that took place during the IPL 2022 mega-auctions.
Iyer was roped in by two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping figure of Rs. 12.25 crore and he will be seen leading the Kolkata-based franchise in the 15th edition of IPL. Iyer, who himself has played under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, was asked to reveal the name of his favorite captain, and surprisingly, Iyer picked KL Rahul as his favorite skipper.
Recently, in an interview, Shreyas Iyer lavished praise on KL Rahul, saying his “calm demeanor” and “instinctive” on-field decision-making ability make him his favorite captain.
“It was nice to play under him,” Iyer said on Red Bull Cricket Room on Clubhouse. “Firstly, he is an outstanding player. The confidence he carries on the field and in the team meetings, the support that he provides to the players, is great.”
He added: “He’s got a very calm demeanour and his on-field decision-making is very instinctive. I really enjoyed playing under him.”
Shreyas had played under Rahul during the ODI series in South Africa earlier this year. He had bowled three overs for 21 runs after Rahul had handed him the opportunity to roll his arm in the third ODI in Proteas. Talking about KL Rahul’s captaincy, Iyer said:
“Also, he gave me three overs of bowling, which none of the captains previously had done. So yeah, he’s my favourite captain,”
While KL Rahul will be seen leading Lucknow Supergiants in IPL 2022, which begins on March 26. On the other hand, Shreyas will be seen leading Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022.
