[Watch] Shreyas Iyer Takes A Diving Catch Of Conway; Asks Medal From Fielding Coach

Mohammed Siraj drew first blood for India as he dismissed the dangerous Devon Conway, with Shreyas Iyer taking a superb diving catch, and immediately he made a medal gesture toward the fielding coach, T Dilip.

Two unbeaten teams, India and New Zealand, faced off on Sunday at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first – this is the fifth straight game in the tournament that India will be chasing. A win today will put either team – both have 8 points in 4 games – just one more step away from a semi-final berth.

India struck early as Mohammed Siraj got the big wicket of Devon Conway, the left-handed Kiwi opener who had earlier hit 152* against England. But most of the credit for Conway’s wicket should go to Shreyas Iyer.

Conway played a shot on the leg side to a delivery on leg-stump from Siraj. However, Conway didn’t mind keeping the ball on the ground. Shreyas Iyer put in a terrific dive to his right to pouch and complete the catch and give India their first breakthrough.

Shreyas Iyer and the Indians were thrilled with an early wicket. Immediately after getting up from the ground, having completed his catch, Iyer made a medal gesture toward the dressing room to fielding coach T Dilip. Dilip had started a tradition of awarding a medal to the best Indian fielder in every game. It was Ravindra Jadeja who got in the last game against Bangladesh and did the same gesture.
