The Indian cricket team emerged victorious in the first T20I against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland. Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant match-winning knock and finishing skills helped India chase down the target of 204 runs beating New Zealand by 6 wickets.

The Indian batsmen did what they are best in doing. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul gave stunning performances and scored half-centuries. However, the performance of Shreyas Iyer stood apart from everyone else.

Shreyas Iyer looked in a great form and went on to play an absolutely thrilling performance, that the Indian cricket team needed the most at that situation. Playing an unbeaten knock of 29-ball 58, he smashed the ball to all the corners of the ground in the first T20I. He smashed 5 fours and 3 sixes.

After the match, Shreyas Iyer talked about his performance and finishing the match with a six. Talking about the same in the post-match presentation, he said:

“It feels good to finish the match and that too by hitting a six,”

He added:

“We needed one important partnership, ground was small and in four overs 50 can also be made on this ground, so we decided one boundary an over and then bowler also comes under pressure,”

He also gave credits to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for supporting him. He said:

“When you hit a six to finish a match, the feeling is special. My aim is to always finish games whatever time I spend on the pitch. We have players like Virat bhai, Rohit bhai who finish games and staying with them helps you learn,”
