India’s talented middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has been named as the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Shreyas Iyer was bought at a whopping amount of INR 12.25 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Shreyas Iyer has impressed one and all with his batting performances at the international level. Not just this, but his captaincy record is very good in the IPL as he led Delhi Capitals for more than two seasons.

Shreyas Iyers Gives His First Reaction After Getting KKR’s Captaincy

Well, after taking over from Gautam Gambhir mid-season, Shreyas Iyer led the franchise to the playoffs in the 2019 and 2020 seasons of the IPL. In fact, in the 2020 edition of the IPL, Delhi Capitals qualified for the final only to lose it to Mumbai Indians.

However, he had to miss the first phase of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League due to a shoulder injury. In his absence, Rishabh Pant took over as the captain of the franchise. Eventually, Shreyas was released from the franchise.

Considering his record with the Delhi Capitals, it was evident that the Kolkata-based franchise would be naming Shreyas Iyer as the skipper.

Shreyas Iyer, who is the KKR’s sixth captain in the history of IPL, was delighted with the great news. Expressing his emotions, Shreyas said:

“I am extremely honoured to have gotten the opportunity to lead a prestigious team like KKR. The IPL as a tournament brings the best players from different countries and cultures together and I look forward to leading this great group of very talented individuals,” Shreyas Iyer said in a statement.
