Shubman Gil Abused The Umpire After He Was Given Out

On Friday, a controversy erupted after the Indian cricketer Shubman Gill abused the umpire after being given out and refused to walk off the ground, during the Ranji Trophy game between Punjab and Delhi at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Before the match started, Punjab won the toss and decided to bat first. Shubman Gill and Sanvir Singh opened the innings for Punjab. However, during their knock, a massive controversy erupted as Shubman Gill verbally abused the umpire, Paschim Pathak after he was caught out and refused to walk off to pavilion.

Shubman Gill was caught behind off Suboth Bhatti, Delhi’s medium pacer. Delhi’s cricketers made a huge appeal following which Gill was given out. However, Shubman Gill walked off to the umpire Paschim Pathak, who was officiating in his first match and abused him.

Well, this whole incident didn’t go down well with the Delhi team as they refused to continue playing and walked off the field. Eventually, a referee had to intervene and sort things out. A DDCA source told ANI:

“The umpire had given him out but he refused to leave the field and argued with umpire. Then umpire changed his decision and the match referee P Ranganathan also stepped on to the field to sort out things. It took around 10 minutes,”

However, the source also revealed that the claims of the Delhi team walking off the field. The source said:

“There was no walkout by the team and the players stayed on the ground itself,”

The match resumed soon and Shubman Gill resumed his knock from where he had left but he didn’t last long as he edged one off Simarjeet Singh to Anuj Rawat for 23 off 41 balls.
