Young Indian cricketer Shubman Gill has been receiving praises from all the corners for his heroics in the just concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba. Gill, who made his debut for team India in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, turned out to be one of the biggest finds of the series for Indian cricket.
Gill was the fourth-highest run-scorer for the visitors in the series, having bagged 259 runs in 3 games he played at an average of 51.80 including a couple of half-centuries. Among others, his most important knock came in Brisbane when team India required runs to end Australia’s 32-year unbeaten streak at the Gabba. During the historic game, Gill scored a powerful 91 runs and helped team India script history.
While the whole cricket fraternity is impressed with the gutsy performance of Gill, the cricketer himself was disappointed to have fallen nine runs short of his maiden Test century. Talking to Forbes India, Mumbai about the same, Shubman expressed his emotions that he felt after he was dismissed for 91 runs. He said:
“Really, really disappointed. We were chasing 300-odd runs and I worked really hard for the first 50 runs. I got out on a ball that wasn’t the best one bowled by Nathan Lyon. I could have scored a boundary on that ball,”

Furthermore, Gill also talked about Team India’s two main targets this year, which are the ICC T20 World Cup at home as well as the World Test Championship. Gill also expressed his desire to play in the T20 World Cup for India. Talking about the same, he said:
“The obvious goal this year is to win the T20 World Cup being played in India, if I get a chance in the team. Then we have the first Test championship, and if we are able to win that, it will be a great endorsement for Test cricket. With T20 and one-dayers coming in, people aren’t that keen to watch Tests. If we win that, it will give Test cricket a lot of momentum,”
Meanwhile, after making his impressive debut, Gill has earned a place in team India’s 18-man squad for the first two Tests against England. The first test will kickstart in Chennai on February 5.
