Siddharth Kaul Asked A Tough Question To The Team Management

The extensive limelight on the IPL and the lack of it on domestic matches have hurt Siddharth Kaul and his chances of returning to the national side, the pacer said recently in an interview.

Once touted as a future mainstay of the Indian pace bowling attack, Siddharth Kaul fizzled out from the attention of fans and selectors.

After terrific shows in domestic circuit, but gaining recognition from his IPL performances for SRH in 2017 and 2018, Siddharth Kaul was given his India debut. He featured in 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is, managing 4 wickets and was dropped, never to be picked again.

“Domestic cricket should be the criteria because some players who can’t play the IPL, they have such outstanding performances in domestic cricket. They aren’t included in any tour. I am quarantining right now, else I would have been playing the Ranji Trophy,” Kaul said.

Part of the 2008 under-19 World Cup-winning side, Siddharth Kaul pointed out that despite his scintillating figures in domestic cricket in the past year, the selectors have ignored him, and didn’t even call him up for the India A squad.

“If you look at my track record last year, I played 5 matches, and I had taken 28 wickets, out of which there were 3 five-wicket hauls and a hat-trick. On a turning track, I had grabbed 2 five-wicket-hauls, one on a green top. Yet, no one paid attention. I didn’t even get selected for India A,” he added.

The 31-year-old is far away from national reckoning at the moment. However, he gains his satisfaction from giving his best in whichever competition he plays, leaving his recall to the Indian team on the selectors.

“My job is to perform. If I do that, deep down, I will have the satisfaction that I did well. It is the selector’s job to pick or not pick me. I will be happy knowing that I did my job. Yes, if I don’t do my job well and then criticise then that is foolishness. I will keep performing because it was on the basis on my performance itself that I got into the Indian team,” Siddharth Kaul further added.

Siddharth Kaul was bought by RCB for INR 75 lakh in the IPL 2022 auction.
