Sourav Ganguly Makes A Big Statement On Virat Kohli’s Form

Former India skipper and the current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is confident that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will slash out their ongoing poor form and return to their best soon.

The two Indian stalwarts have had a disappointing time in the IPL 2022 so far. Sharma, India’s all-format captain now, has scored 153 runs in 8 matches at an average of 19.12 (even Jaydev Unadkat has managed a better average than the Mumbai Indians captain).

And while Rohit has got a number of starts but has failed to convert them, Virat Kohli is having his worst season since 2008: the talismanic Royal Challengers Bangalore batter has managed only 128 runs in 9 innings at a lowly average of 16; as many as 6 RCB batters have a better average than Kohli’s.

With this form of the two key Indian players, there are huge concerns being raised, especially given the series and tournaments coming ahead.

Sourav Ganguly, though, asserted that both Rohit and Kohli are great players and will know how to break this poor form. He also commented that he has no idea why Kohli is struggling.

“They (Rohit and Kohli) are great players and I am sure they will get back in form. I hope they start scoring runs soon. I don’t know what is going on in Virat Kohli’s head but I am sure he will regain his form and get some good runs. He is a great player,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by News18.

Former India head coach and Kohli’s great ally, Ravi Shastri believes that Kohli is mentally “overcooked” and surely needs to take a break from cricket in order to remain fit, mentally especially, to be at his best for the coming years.

“I am going straight to the main guy here. Virat Kohli is overcooked. If anyone needs a break, it’s him. Whether it’s two months or a month and a half, whether it’s after [the] England [tour in July] or before England – he needs a break because he has got six-seven years of cricket left in him and you don’t want to lose that with a fried brain,” Shastri told Star Sports.
