Sourav Ganguly Backs Hardik Pandya: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is known as someone who speaks his mind and doesn’t mince his words. Even as a cricketer, Sourav Ganguly was a very aggressive batsman and leader, and he used to give it back as good as he got.

Recently, Sourav Ganguly interacted with media on the sidelines of a promotional event and spoke about India’s upcoming tour of South Africa, which is now under doubt because of the outbreak of new variant of COVID-19.

Ganguly said that the tour is on as of now but the board is still monitoring the situation closely and taking their time to assess the situation.

“The tour is on as things stand till now. We still have time to decide. The first Test is scheduled from December 17. We will ponder about it,” Ganguly told reporters on the sidelines of a promotional event,” he said.

Later, Ganguly was also asked about India’s swashbuckling all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is going through a horrible patch and has been dropped from the squad due to bad form. Ganguly backed Hardik Pandya and said that he is a good cricketer and he has been excluded from the team only because he is not fit. He also added that Pandya still has a lot of time left in his career and hopefully, he will make a comeback after recovering from his injury.

“He [Hardik Pandya] is a good cricketer. He’s not fit, that’s why he’s not there in the team. He’s young, I hope he makes a comeback after recovering from his injury,” Dada said.

When asked about legendary Kapil Dev’s recent remarks in which he questioned Hardik Pandya’s role as an allrounder in the India team after he had stopped bowling following his back surgery, Ganguly said:

“Don’t compare him (Hardik Pandya) with Kapil Dev. He belonged to a different league.”

Our view: This is a huge statement because a vast majority of fans think that Hardik Pandya has been dropped because of his poor form and he needs to work more on his game and attitude. Many fans supported selectors’s decision to drop Pandya because they believe Pandya needs to focus more on his game and fitness and contribute in all three departments of the game. It would be interesting to see how the selectors react when Hardik Pandya recovers from his injury.
