Sourav Ganguly Picks His Favourite Player Between Virat Kohli And Steve Smith

The cricket fraternity is busy deciding as to who’s the greatest modern day batsman of the era among the Indian captain, Virat Kohli and the Aussie skipper, Steve Smith. A few days back during the first Ashes test, Ricky Ponting revealed that according to him Steve Smith is the greatest batsman of the era given his superb performances.

The debate about who is the best batsman of the era is getting intense each day as both, Smith and Kohli are outperforming each other in every innings. Both have been exceptionally well with the bat and have heavily contributed to the winning fortunes of their respective teams.

While Kohli’s hunger for runs is unstoppable and he has amassed 15000 international runs, Steve Smith’s dedication is exemplary and he has 9000 international runs already under his belt. Isn’t this one very tough question to be asked?

Now Sourav Ganguly too has openly talked about as to who is the best modern day batsman according to him. Once again the choice was between Kohli and Smith. Whom did Dada choose? Dada said that both are on top of their games at the moment and have been performing exceptionally well. But he chose to go with Kohli given Kohli’s hunger for runs.

In and interview with India Today, Dada said, “Don’t compare Kohli and Smith. For me both of them are right up there and both are the best batsmen in the world today. Virat is special” He further added that the way Kohli is always hungry for runs, always charged up and energetic and the way he turns tables is phenomenal.

He also compared Smith’s century at the Gabba in the first Ashes Test and Virat’s double ton against Sri Lanka at Nagpur. He said that Smith’s century came against a much better opposition while Virat’s double century was against a relatively weaker bowling attack. But he also said that this fact takes nothing away form Kohli. He concluded by saying, “Kohli has been fantastic.”
