The Kolkata Knight Riders are all set to sack skipper Gautam Gambhir as per reports. KKR is certain that it would not be retaining the 36 year old Delhi batsman who being a captain has led the side to two title wins.
Under the captaincy of Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders has won the title in the year 2012 and 2014. Yet the management has decided to sack him and rather retain Sunil Narine, the West Indian cricketer.
It’s rather shocking that the team management has decided not to retain its best batsman and a clinical captain. This comes as a jolt for both Gautam Gambhir and the fans of the Kolkata Knight Riders who have taken a great liking to Gambhir as a captain.
Gautam Gambhir was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011 for 11.07 crores and was made the captain of the KKR then.
Gambhir now wants to play for this team
Reports claim that the 36 year old batsman has expressed interests in playing for the Delhi Daredevils. Gautam Gambhir has played for the Delhi Daredevils in the first three seasons of the Indian Premier League. He also took up captaincy of the Delhi Daredevils when Virendra Sehwag stepped down.
The news of Gautam Gambhir wanting to play for its home side, Delhi Daredevils was revealed by Sourav Ganguly. He revealed it during a Star Sports show that he has learned about Gautam’s wish to play for the Delhi Daredevils.
Reports also suggest that Mumbai Indians, the defending champions will retain Rohit Sharma, Hardik and Krunal Pandya. Chennai Super Kings will retain MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina.
On the other hand, Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab will not retain any players. The Sun Risers Hyderabad will be keen to retain David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar while the Rajasthan Royals aren’t looking forward to retain any.
