The Indian cricket team is all set to take part in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to kickstart on October 5. This will be just another opportunity for team India to end their ICC trophy drought. They will enter the marquee tournament as the favorites with a home advantage.

It has to be noted that the Indian cricket team hasn’t performed well in the ICC tournaments. In fact, it has been more than a decade since the team last won an ICC trophy – Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni in 2013. Ever since then, the Indian cricket team has come really close to winning the tournaments but has failed to do so.

The team has come under the scanner for their poor performances in the ICC tournaments. Meanwhile, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has pointed out the reason why team India hasn’t done well in the ICC tournaments in the recent past.

Sourav Ganguly On Why Team India Doesn’t Perform Well In ICC Tournaments

In an interaction with RevSportz on his 51st birthday, Ganguly said that not doing well in the ICC tournaments is all because of execution and not about the mental pressure. He is very hopeful that the Men in Blue will end their ICC trophy really soon. He said:

“We don’t perform well sometimes, in crucial phases. I don’t feel it is mental pressure, but its all about execution. They are mentally strong people. Hopefully, they will cross the line soon.”

Sourav Ganguly is hopeful that team India can win the World Cup this time, and that qualifying for the final of the upcoming World Test Championship Final against Australia was itself a huge achievement. He said:

“Yes, yes, always hopeful. At least we qualified for the finals of the World Test Championship, which is also an achievement. And yes, we have a chance. We have got good players, plenty of them. Hopefully, we will do it this time”.

Further, Sourav Ganguly also extended his support to the regular Indian captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to take place later this year. He said:

“Just win it. He has won five IPLs, which is not easy also. So hopefully, he can do it for India in this World Cup.”
