Sourav Ganguly Was Asked Whether Virat Kohli Will Break Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI Record

Cricket LoungeBy Cricket LoungeUpdated:09/02/2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Every time Virat Kohli breaks an ODI record, fans and media turn back to their favourite questions– Can Virat Kohli break Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI records? Can Virat Kohli score 100 hundreds? Who is a better ODI batsman, Sachin or Virat?

In the first match of the ongoing ODI series between India and New Zealand, Virat Kohli batted brilliantly and scored his 31st ODI hundred, leaving the great Australian batsman Ricky Ponting behind.

Former Indian captain and a huge admirer of Virat Kohli’s talent, Sourav Ganguly believes that Virat Kohli can break Sachin’s record in ODI cricket. In a candid chat with India Today, Sourav Ganguly said that we can’t rule out the possibility of Virat Kohli breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

“It (Kohli breaking Tendulkar’s record) is possible and you cannot rule that out. We will have to wait and see but 19 hundreds is a long way and (most) people do not get 19 hundreds in their (entire) careers,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Dada also added that we should forget about hundreds and all other numbers and acknowledge the fact that Virat Kohli is as good as Sachin when it comes to ODI cricket. He also added that Kohli will play for a long period of time because he is very fit and always hungry for more.

“But I think we should forget about hundreds, forget about whether he (Kohli) gets to Tendulkar or not because probably he is as good as Tendulkar when it comes to ODI cricket. He is a fantastic batsman, he will continue to score runs and keep winning a lot of matches for India. He is in his late 20’s now and is going to get older and will be in his mid thirties in a few years. He is a very fit cricketer so I do not think age will be a factor for him,” Sourav Ganguly added.
