Steve Smith Takes A Dig At India’s Batting Unit Ahead Of The Test Series: The Men in Blue will soon be seen locking their horns against their arch-rivals Australians in the upcoming bilateral series. However, this time, there are question marks over the availability of a number of key players like Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, and Ishant Sharma for the longest format of the game.
Team India will be without the services of their captain Virat Kohli for as many as three Tests as he would be leaving for home to be with his wife Anushka Sharma to welcome their first baby. While Rohit Sharma won’t be available in the limited formats of the game.
On the other hand, the Australian cricket team is currently on cloud 9 with the return of their two best all-format batsmen Steve Smith and David Warner, who were not a part of the side when Team India defeated them in both ODIs and Tests.
With the absence of key players in the team, Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith took a dig at the Indian batting unit as he claimed that team India has enough firepower to fill the gap.
During a virtual press conference facilitated by Sony Network, Steve Smith showered praises on Rohit Sharma and claimed that his absence will leave a hole. He said:
“Look, Rohit is obviously a tremendous white-ball player, he has proven that for a number of years now at the top of the order, so obviously it leaves a bit of hole,”
He added:
“But I guess the beauty with the Indian team is there are so many batters coming through, that are of high quality. You can look at someone like Mayank Agarwal in the IPL, just smashed, KL Rahul in the top order as well. There are plenty of options there for them. So look, you leave a hole no doubt, but quality players there to back him up,”
Speaking on the absence of Virat Kohli for a major part of the Test series, Smith said:
“The same (like Rohit) I think with Virat and the Test squad. You know there are a number of players who can come in and do a good job. Virat is of obviously high quality, and we know how good he has been in all forms for a long period of times, so it is certainly going to leave a hole but I still do believe that they have got some quality batters waiting in the wings to fill that void.”
