Amidst growing backlash against Chinese companies in India, Vivo decided to withdraw from the contract for this year. It was in 2018 when the BCCI had signed a 5-year-old contract with the Chinese firm VIVO for the sponsorship of IPL, and the value of the 5-year old was a whopping INR 2199 crores. However, due to the sentiments of the country towards China, BCCI decided to take this big step.

After VIVO backed out of IPL 2020, the BCCI was in search of a new sponsor, many companies including the likes of Coco-cola, Jio, Amazon, Patanjali, Tata group, etc, tried to get the sponsorship of the year.

Now on August 18, IPL Chairman Brijest Patel announced the name of the new sponsors for IPL 2020. Fantasy sports platform Dream11 won the title sponsorship for IPL 2020 for Rs. 222 crores, outbidding the favorites Tata Sons and education technology programs like — Byju and Unacademy. Announcing the big news, Brijesh Patel said:
“Fantasy sports platform Dream11 wins IPL title sponsorship rights with a bid of ₹222 crore,”
As soon as the news came out, social media was flooded with amazing reactions from Twitterati on this. Amidst many, a popular twitter user named Suhel Seth, who is a Delhi based businessman, author, and actor, took to his social media and explained why ‘Dream 11’ sponsoring IPL 2020 is great news. He wrote:
“Have just read that Dreams 11 is an Indian Company founded, owned and managed by a young enterprising man Harsh Jain in which TenCents has a single digit investment so more power to his elbow. And here’s to a glorious IPL….”

Meanwhile, the new edition of the IPL will be held from September 19 to November 10 in the UAE this year. “IPL 2020 will be played from September 19 and the final will be played on November 10, 2020. The 53-day tournament will witness 10-afternoon matches starting at 15:30 IST while the evening matches will start at 19:30 IST,” said BCCI last week.
