After Indian went down in the fourth ODI, Sunil Gavaskar was critical of the Indian bowlers and questioned their professionalism. But now when India has sealed the series and has scripted history, Sunil Gavaskar is all praises for the young spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Both these spinners have scalped wickets in plenty in the ongoing ODI series and they have made the hosts struggle. Sunil Gavaskar is in awe of this young duo and their fearlessness. Gavaskar is so impressed with these two young spinners that he even compared them to Shane Warne.
Kuldeep and Chahal have picked 30 wickets in this series which is just phenomenal. This is the highest number of wickets by spinners in a bilateral series.
Here is what Sunny said
“I have seen some wonderful spinners. Abdul Qadir, for example. He was fantastic as a leg-spinner. Shane Warne was another. I didn’t play against him, but he was an artist. He set batsmen up. I think this is exactly what these two spinners are trying to do, trying to set batsmen up,”
Sunil Gavaskar further added
“Comparisons obviously are odious as guys are from different eras, different generation. But these two guys are two of the most exciting young spinners,”
Gavaskar also said
“What you see is the fearlessness of youth. They are not afraid to toss the ball up, unafraid to experiment. They might get hit like they did at the Wanderers the other day. Even today, the odd over was expensive. But they are always, every single ball, trying to get a wicket. That’s very exciting.”
