While India’s tour of South Africa which begins in January is being looked at as a test of character for Kohli and his men, a former Indian cricketer believes that team Indian has a fair chance to defeat South Africa in the test series on their soil.

Yes, this is exactly what Sunil Gavaskar said about India’s fortunes while playing the test series in South Africa. Sunil Gavaskar is one of the greatest former cricketers of all times and a stalwart cricket pundit.

He feels that Kohli has led the team in a manner that the team has excelled in all departments. He reflected great confidence when he said that India will beat the Proteas at their home in the test series starting on January 5.

You must learn that India is yet to win a test series in South Africa. Given how India has performed under the brilliant leadership of Kohli, its fair that Sunil Gavaskar holds such great confidence in the Indian team.

India thrashed Sri Lanka badly in the second test at Nagpur. kohli and his men showed it to everyone as to why is India the best side in the ICC test rankings.

Gavaskar feels that this set up of the Indian team is the best they’ve ever had and hence they have every chance to make the Proteas taste defeat.

In an interview to NDTV, Sunil Gavaskar said, “ India is firing on all cylinders. It’s batting is looking good. The bowling has got a sharp edge and fielding is outstanding. I believe India has the potential to win the series for the first time in South Africa.”

Gavaskar was also asked to compare this team with Indian test teams of the past. Replying to the question he said that the comparison is tough as there’s a lot of differences in the oppositions and conditions in the present team and teams of the past. He then pointed out that the present team has great balance and is right up there to defeat South Africa.
