Sunil Gavaskar Made A Big Statement About Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli Opening Formula

Sunil Gavaskar Made A Big Statement About Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli Opening Formula: The Indian cricket team sprung a huge surprise by sending out skipper Virat Kohli to open the innings for team India along with Rohit Sharma in the series decider 5th and the last T20I against England. It was the first time that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opened the innings for team India in a T20I.

Both the cricketers gave a flying start to team India in the fifth T20I against England in Ahmedabad. The Cricket fraternity was all praises for Rohit-Virat opening combination in T20Is.

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar was very impressed with the Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli opening combination in T20Is after the duo gave an impressive performance. Recently, in an interview, he was all praises for the opening pair and stated that the best batsmen should bat the most of a number of overs in the limited-overs of the game.

Gavaskar also termed KL Rahul’s poor form as a blessing in disguise for the Indian cricket team as it gave the team a new opening combination in T20Is. Gavaskar said:

Your best batsman should bat the most number of overs in limited-overs cricket. So it was very important for Virat Kohli to bat at the top of the order. So maybe, KL Rahul’s loss of form has been a blessing in disguise because this has given us an opening combination to look forward to. Like when Sachin Tendulkar was batting down the order in ODIs and then he was sent up to open the batting and what a transformation it had not just on his batting but the whole team. So clearly, your best batsman have to bat as many overs as they can,”

Further, Gavaskar opined that he would persist with this opening pair. He also talked about how Rohit and Virat interacted with each other during their partnership. He said:

“I would persist with this opening formula. Look at the way they fed off each other. You could see the interaction between the two of them, whenever each of them got the big shot going. When that happens, when two leaders of the team show the way, it becomes easier for the guys coming down the order. With Suryakumar Yadav, in India colours and playing those cameos, it’s really good,”

Meanwhile, team India will now be seen locking its horns with England in the upcoming ODI match that will kickstart from March 23 in Pune.
