Sunil Gavaskar Made A Big Statement About Shubman Gill: India’s young opening batsman Shubman Gill has impressed many with his fiery performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

On Day 2 of the ongoing 3rd Test match, team India managed to remain slightly ahead and ended at 96-2 after dismissing Australians for 338 runs. Shubman Gill opened India’s innings with Rohit Sharma in the third Test match and played a stunning knock of 50 runs before getting dismissed by Pat Cummins. During the process, he smashed 7 fours against the likes of Nathan Lyon, Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood.

Several cricketers showered praises on the young batsman, however, he has received the biggest praise from the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. Sunil Gavaskar was all praises for Shubman Gill. Recently, in an interview, Gavaskar claimed that Shubman has got a very big career ahead of him.

Talking about Shubman Gill, Sunil Gavaskar wished that the opening batsman converts his marvelous fifty into three figures. He also pointed out that Gill has produced some of the memorable strokes and got behind the line, which is a crucial stage for the opening batsman.

Furthermore, Sunil Gavaskar said that Gill defends well as much as he attacks which is the reason he thinks that Shubman Gill has a glorious future ahead of him. He said:

“I wish Shubman Gill could have carried on from that half-century to century. What we saw in this innings confirms that he is one of India’s brightest prospects. He got behind the line, he has got wonderful ray for shots, like I said, he played some sparkling and spanking shots but basically the way he got behind the line of the ball was so, so impressive and that is the thing actually you want to look at opening batsman, how quickly and how confidently they get behind the line of the ball. Shubman Gill’s defence was as good as his Attacking batting and that is why I think he has got a big career ahead of him,”
