Sunil Gavaskar Named The Best Man To Take India To An ICC Win

Sunil Gavaskar Named The Best Man To Take India To An ICC Win: With Virat Kohli’s tenure as team India’s T20 skipper coming to an end, India’s star batsman Rohit Sharma looks all set to take over the duties in the shortest format of the game. However, Rohit isn’t the only candidate in the fray for the position of T20I captaincy as the likes of KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant are also being tipped to take over the captaincy duties in the shortest format of the game.

Several former cricketers and experts have opined their favorites for the position of the T20 captaincy of team India. The latest one to join the debate is the former Indian cricketer and legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar feels that Rohit Sharma will remain the ‘obvious choice’ to lead the Men in Blue considering the next T20 World Cup in Australia is just a few months away.

“Long term is in case the next World Cup is maybe 2 years away or 3 years away. Next World Cup is just 10-12 months away. You don’t have to really look long term now,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

As per Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit was the ‘best man’ to lead India to an ICC trophy, considering the fact that team India last won an ICC trophy in the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni. He said:

“Right now, you have to look for the best man who can take India to an ICC trophy. And that is Rohit Sharma with his record for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, he is an obvious choice. I think he should be given the captaincy and maybe after next year’s World Cup in Australia, maybe have a look at another T20 captain. But right, now it’s only Rohit Sharma,”

Meanwhile, though BCCI is yet to make an official announcement regarding India’s next T20I captain, Virat Kohli and outgoing head coach Ravi Shastri have dropped major hints that Rohit Sharma will be replacing Virat as India’s T20I captain.
