Sunil Gavaskar Slams England’s “Two-Man” Team

Former Indian skipper and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar slammed the performance of the England cricketers and termed them a ‘two-man team’. Gavaskar’s comments came after India defeat England by 151 runs in the second Test match at the iconic Lord’s Stadium. With the win, team India has taken a lead of 1-0 up in the series. The first Test match had ended in a draw because of frequent rain interruptions.

Day 5 of the 2nd Test match turned out to be an absolute thriller as the Indian cricket team outperformed England in all the departments of the game. Riding on the stunning performance of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, with the bat, India gave a target of 272 runs to England with 60 overs in hand.

However, the England batsmen looked vulnerable in front of a relentless Indian seam attack. Only Joe Root was able to get past the score of 30 runs, the rest of all of them collided. Indian bowlers dominated the game throughout on the final day. As a result, the Indian side was able to bowl England out for 120 runs in just 51.5 overs and won the match by 151 runs.

After the match, speaking on Sony Sports Network, Sunil Gavaskar termed the England side as a ‘Two-man’ team. He also slammed their technique and the way they performed. He said:

“England is a two-man team. It’s just Joe Root and Jimmy Anderson. With the greatest of respect to all who are playing there, it doesn’t look like a proper Test team,”

“Their technique is awful. The technique of their opening batsmen is ludicrous. Their No.3 batsman Haseeb Hameed is nervous, tentative. So, we look up to Joe Root. Jonny Bairstow, yes if he gets going or otherwise it’s nothing. Buttler, he is a fine white-ball player. I’m not too sure he is there for red-ball cricket,”

He added:

“In bowling, there was just Jimmy Anderson and there was nobody else. Robinson got five wickets in Trent Bridge but it’s really a ‘two and a half men’ kind of a team,”

Further, Sunil Gavaskar went on to predict that the Indian cricket team will win the remaining three matches as well and will win the series by 4-0 or 3-1. He said:

“That’s why I think India will win the remaining three matches of the series. I had said at the beginning of the series that India should win it 4-0 or 3-1 and I still believe that result is possible if rain doesn’t spoilsport.”
