Mohammed Siraj, who has impressed one and all with his consistently brilliant performances for the Indian cricket team, grabbed a few headlines for the wrong reasons recently. The star bowler, during his own bowling, had thrown the ball back at the Proteas batter Temba Bavuma in aggression, on the fifth day of the first Test between India and South Africa.
Well, the incident took place during the 62nd over of South Africa innings when Siraj bowled a good length delivery and Bavuma played a defensive shot. However, as the ball returned back to Siraj, the pacer took it and threw the ball at Bavuma. The ball struck Bavuma on the foot and the Proteas batsman was seen in considerable pain.
Though Mohammed Siraj instantly realized his mistake and rushed to apologize to the batsman, but fans were left disappointed with his act. In fact, several cricketers and experts also expressed their displeasure with the act.
Former Indian cricketer and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar was also not happy with Siraj’s conduct. Sunil Gavaskar felt that Siraj got carried away in the heat of the moment. He said:
“There was no attempt to take the run. You are a little bit aggressive; you’ve gotten a bit carried away,”
Further, Sunil Gavaskar added that the Proteas batsman hadn’t even intended to take a run, and there was no need for Mohammed Siraj to throw the ball back at the batter. Gavaskar concluded by stating that someone should talk to Siraj about his on-field aggression. He said:
“But if there was an attempt to run, it would have been understandable. He’s there. He didn’t take the run. There was no need, absolutely no need for that. Siraj should be spoken to,”
