T20 WORLD CUP 2022

Superstars vs Underdogs: Amit Mishra Takes A Dig At West Indies Team After Their Early Exit From T20 World Cup 2022

In the early surprise that the T20 World Cup 2022 sprung up, two-time champions West Indies were eliminated from the preliminary qualifying round of the tournament and failed to secure a berth in the main round – Super 12.

West Indies had failed to qualify directly from the Super 12 earlier and were placed in Group B alongside Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Scotland.

They lost their first match to Scotland by 42 runs but managed to keep themselves alive with a 31-run win over Zimbabwe.

However, in a must-win and virtual knockout encounter against Ireland, West Indies only posted 146, which Ireland gunned down inside 18 overs for the loss of only one wicket and sealed their Super 12 spot. Zimbabwe, who defeated Ireland and Scotland, also progressed to the next round.

Veteran Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra took to Twitter to express his feeling regarding this embarrassing elimination of the West Indies, once a feared powerhouse in T20Is.

Amit Mishra’s tweet on West Indies’ elimination has gone viral

Amit Mishra took a dig at West Indies by saying that despite the team being filled with a number of T20 stalwarts, they were eliminated; on the other hand, he stated, the “underdogs” Zimbabwe managed to reach the next round.

“A team which consists of so many T20 superstars didn’t qualify and a team full of underdogs qualified for next stage of T20 world cup. Cricket indeed is full of uncertainties,” Amit Mishra tweeted.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag also stated that it was a “pity” that the two-time T20 world champs won’t be seen anymore in this year’s tournament.

“Happy to see Zimbabwe qualify but such a disappointment to not have the West Indies in the main round. Winners of 2 of the last 4 events and not qualifying this time. Such a pity. So India faces Pakistan, Netherlands, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe in the league stages,” Sehwag tweeted.

Here is Sehwag’s tweet:

Here are the groups of the Super 12 round:
