Suresh Raina Hailed Neeraj Chopra For Setting Up A National Record: On his return to competitive action for the first time since his Tokyo Olympics heroics, javelin star Neeraj Chopra straightaway set a new national record at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022, a Continental Tour event in Turku, Finland, bagging the silver medal on Tuesday.

Neeraj Chopra Shattered His Own Record

The Gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics, Chopra shattered his own previous record of 88.07m from March 2021 to record a personal best of 89.30m. The 24-year-old now has his sights on the 90-metre marker as he prepares for the next Olympics which will be held in Paris, France, in 2024.

Wishes started to pour from all corners for the superstar javelin thrower as he added another feather to his cap. The cricket fraternity also took to Twitter to send in their congratulations and expressed pride in Chopra’s achievements.

One special tweet came from former India batsman Suresh Raina. The 2011 World Cup winner congratulated Chopra with a lovely tweet and wished him all success for the future.

Neeraj Chopra, who clinched the historic gold last year with a throw of 87.58m in his second attempt at the Tokyo Olympics, started the Continental Tour event with a throw of 86.92m.

In his second throw, the Harayana-born athlete broke the national record. He made 3 valid attempts at the event in Finland and signed off with a best of 89.30m, finishing second in the event behind Finland’s Oliver Helander, who sealed the top spot with a best throw of 89.83m. Current world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada finished at the 3rd spot with a best throw of 86.60m.

Chopra had shifted his training base to Finland where he has been undergoing a 28-day training camp with his coach Klaus Bartonietz.
