Suresh Raina Hints At Returning To IPL 2024 For KL Rahul's LSG

Is former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Suresh Raina returning to the IPL in IPL 2024? The 37-year-old has hinted that he could join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their mentor ahead of the IPL 2024 season.

Suresh Raina had announced his IPL retirement in September 2022, after going unsold in the IPL 2022 mega-auction. In the last two seasons, he has been part of the commentary team for the broadcasters.

However, on Saturday evening, Suresh Raina, who belongs to Uttar Pradesh, dropped a massive hint of joining the Lucknow Super Giants for the IPL 2024 season as their mentor.

Renowned as Mr. IPL for his great consistency for over a decade, Raina replied to a comment from a journalist which caused chaos among the fans on social media.

Suresh Raina trolls journalist; hints at returning to IPL 2024 as mentor of LSG

A Twitter user, @CricManjit, had initially posted a tweet, reporting that Suresh Raina could be roped in as the mentor of LSG.

This tweet read: “Suresh Raina is set to be announced as the Mentor of Lucknow Supergiants for IPL 2024. [TOI] The homecoming of UP Boy. Can’t wait for the union of this duo”

A senior journalist then tweeted, “निहायत फर्जी खबर….(Absolutely fake news)”

This tweet from the journalist caught the attention of Raina who replied: “Why ? Your news can’t be rite all the time ?”

Fans considered this as a major hint from the 2011 World Cup winner on potentially joining LSG as their mentor or batting consultant next season.

Raina represented CSK for 11 seasons between 2008 and 2021, and captained the Gujarat Lions team in 2016 and 2017 when CSK were banned. The southpaw won four IPL titles with CSK – in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021 – and still remains their leading-scorer with 4687 runs from 176 matches. However, with dip in form in 2020 and 2021 seasons, Raina was released by CSK and didn’t find any buyer in IPL 2022 mega-auction, consequently, announcing his IPL and domestic retirement.
